Oh, Simple Cinderella. So simple. So hot.
Cinderella will always have a place in my heart, in part because I imagine her like this. (Clearly my image of her was influenced by the animated Disney version). She’s not quite bright enough to question anything going on around her, no matter how wild it is. An elderly woman appears after YEARS OF NEGLECT and magics you a dress out of thin air? Wear that shit. Some mice from the house get turned into full grown human men and offer to drive you around in an engorged pumpkin? CLIMB IN. The future ruler of the country wants to marry you after a night of dancing and learning your tiny shoe size? NO FURTHER QUESTIONS.
Simple.
I grew up on princesses—the animated ladies, sure, but also the board game, Pretty Pretty Princesses. I have five sisters, so we played our fair share of PPP. Every game, I hoped the black princess ring would find its way to me. It’s metal as hell, and even though you lose the game if you end up with it, I always coveted that ring. Secretly.
Simple Cinderella reminds me of the pretty, pretty princesses I grew up with. She’s not smart or talented or hardworking. She’s just pretty, and that’s good enough for the prince—for the entire, kingdom, really. There’s no vetting process for future rulers in this mythical land, beyond being dance-able and ball-able, and Simple Cindy passes with some kind of colors, if not flying ones. (She did lose a shoe, after all.)
Enjoy your week, my friends. I’ll be off with my head in the clouds, living that simple life.
Royally yours,
