Here’s a silly comic to start off your weekend in the appropriate fashion. Mash those bass keys, my peeps.
This comic reminds me of an 18th Century Literature conference that I presented at when I was in grad school. It was held at a sleepy, off-season hotel and we had a fancy ball to close out the two-day event, complete with live dance instruction and a live string quartet. In the morning, I read a paper on Jane Austen and communal authorship, and by evening I was in the mostly empty hotel ballroom learning a traditional French Contradanse from 18th Century cosplayers wearing powdered wigs, ballgowns and breeches.
Imagine a group of bookish, middle-aged scholars and their tag-along band of grad students — all of us in blazers and button-ups, our lanyard name tags bouncing in time as we skipped around the room to some boppy 18th-century reel.
Scholarship.
I don’t have much of an update this week other than to say: another quarterly print drop will be announced next Thursday, so watch your inboxes. Here’s a sneak peak of one of the designs—getting the colors down has been agonizing, but I’m excited to see it finished (hopefully over the weekend).
Here it is, still being blocked out inch by inch:
The prints will be available to order in early August. I’ll have an exact date once I get shipping confirmation from the printers. First dibs will go to my Founding Tier subscribers (who get a free print with each print run), followed by paid subscribers, then free subscribers. Prints usually sell out within a few days, so if you want to snag one, be sure to mark your calendars.
Until next week, my dears,
