Inktober + Art Show this Friday!
Inktober 2023 + Come snag a piece at the Autumn Apparitions Art Show!
I’ve been trying to up my art game lately. In September, I began a strict daily art practice (with pencil! and paper!) and have only missed a few days here and there. I’m reading art books and filling up new sketchbooks again. I even started going to a local figure drawing class, where I am easily the worst figure drawer there. I know I need to tighten up my technical skills if I want to call this thing that I do a Real Job, so that’s what I’ve been up to.
Since the theme of my life these days is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, I decided to join the Inktober challenge again this year. The prompt for Day 1 was “Dream,” and I decided to go with an Over the Garden Wall theme for the entire month. This is what I came up with for day 1:
I’m old school, so I used plain old ink pens and paper, and I’m following the official Inktober prompts. Feel free to join in, if you’re so inclined. (or ink-lined? oh dear.)
From here on out, I’ll keep all my Inktober drawings in the Inktober section of my Substack. You have to opt in if you want these to show up in your inbox! I didn’t want to suddenly swamp everyone’s inboxes with daily posts, so I made a separate section for it. It’s easy to do, you just have to visit your settings on Substack (follow this link to go to your settings). Down below you’ll see all your subscriptions, click on the “Haunted Librarian” and it will take you here:
Make sure you slide that little button beside Inktober to green! And that’s it—you’ll never miss an inktober drawing! I’ll post them on Substack’s Notes feature, too, in case you just want to pop in and see them every once in a while.
I’ll also be selling these drawings, so if you want to know the second they hit the shop, you’ll want to subscribe to the Inktober section of the newsletter. I’ll usually send it out around 12:30/1:00 MST.
I don’t often make originals, so I think they’ll go quickly. Or maybe not! I really don’t know. We’ll see how inktober progresses. As always, I’ll post them here on Substack first, then on Instagram later.
Also: yes. I know it’s not technically the first day of October. I tend to take a bit of a social media hiatus on Sundays, so I wasn’t too stressed that I didn’t start Inktober yesterday.
I did get up into the mountains, though, and I was not disappointed.
Before I sign off, I want to put this Friday on your art radar. I’ve got four pieces up at JKR Gallery here in Provo—all part of the annual Autumn Apparitions art show. These are some pieces that haven’t been available for a while, so if you want to grab one, they’ll be available at the studio until sold. These are the designs:
The opening reception is from 6-9 PM this Friday. I’ll be there if you want to say hi! There will also be food and music and lots of my favorite fellow local artists. There’s even a costume contest, so feel free to dress in your spooky best, if you want.
If you can’t make it to the reception, you can still see all the pieces on display throughout the entire month. It’s a great space, and the pieces are always phenomenal. I can’t wait.🖤
Happy October, my friends. I’m so glad you’re here. I hope you’re keeping the fires lit and the beasties at bay. Be sure to invite them in every once in a while. I doubt they’re really that scary, after all.
Yours,
🎃Becca Lee, Haunted Librarian🎃
