Haunted Librarian Shop Update TOMORROW 🎃
And some Haunted Librarian appearances at local art galleries! Come say hello!
October is here and I’m so, so excited. This whole month feels like a holiday—it’s my favorite time of year! (And my busiest, as you’ll soon see.)
I have art on display at TWO galleries during the month of October, and since I’ve been getting a lot of requests for prints of these pieces, I’ve decided to open the shop for a few days this weekend! Lucky you!
The online shop will open tomorrow October 3rd at 11:00 am (MST) and close Sunday October 6th at midnight. So if you want some Haunted Librarian prints or stickers in time for spooky season, don’t miss it!
Here’s a preview of one of the new prints:
Framed versions of this piece (and others) are currently on display at the Orem Library. You can see the whole collection through the end of October—just stop by any time between 9am-9pm M-F, or 9am-6pm Sat. They have so many beautiful gallery spaces in the library, so I feel really lucky to have my art hanging in such a lovely space!
I’m also teaching a Haunted Art Class for kids at the library tonight, but it’s sold out! I wish I’d announced it here sooner. Honestly I didn’t expect the tickets to go so quickly! I love doing events like this, so hopefully I’ll do more soon (and announce them sooner, too).
I love the Orem Library—their events, their galleries, their big, beautiful collections of books and music and movies. The collection of work I’m showing there is called “I Know Their Names,” and it’s inspired by the late Annie Blake, beloved local artist and dear friend of mine. (Yes, that Annie). Back in 2017, a Annie showed her paintings alongside several written pieces. My favorite was a small, haunting phrase that she once scribbled on a scrap of notebook paper. Simon sent us a photo of it, found in her things, after she died:
“There are ghosts in this house, and I know their names.”
These words stuck with me for years, and they became even more poignant after Annie’s sudden illness and passing in 2020. After her death, I found myself painting all manner of friendly ghosts in familiar settings—at the kitchen table, waiting patiently in the bathroom, or peering in and out of old windows.
These ghosts were soft and familiar—waiting to be reunited with all the people who can and can’t see them, their haunted friends and family.
Maybe this was a wish to see my friend somewhere I could recognize, instead of trying to imagine her somewhere I could never reach.
There are ghosts in this house, and I know their names.
These prints will be available to purchase in the shop update tomorrow, alongside a limited release of some brand new sticker designs, all based on popular Haunted Librarian comics.
There are 12 new stickers in total—including the goofy Pokemon designs I drew earlier this year. Make sure you catch ‘em all once the shop opens!
Note: if you’re a paid subscriber here on Substack, you also get a coupon code for 5% off all purchases in the online shop, so watch your Inboxes tomorrow morning.
Several of my new prints will also be available on display and for sale at the JKR Gallery from October 4th-26th as part of their “Autumn Apparitions” show. It’s always a fantastic collection—artists from all over sharing their most haunted pieces. There’s an opening reception on Friday October 4th. I’ll be there, ready to mix and mingle my ghoulish heart out. Come say hello! Take home a print! Details below:
Most of the pieces at this show become available online shortly after opening. So even if you’re not local, you can still snag a signed/framed Haunted Librarian piece (as long as it doesn’t sell right away). You just have to check here for the listing.
OK! I think that’s it: Shop updates! Art shows! Spooky delights! October, man. What a rush! I hope yours is quickly filling up with spectacular specters of all shapes and sizes, and that you eat so much candy your teeth fall out. It’s festive! It’s ghoulish! It’s the reason for the season!!
As always, thanks for being here, my friends.
See you on the other side,
👻Becca Lee, Haunted Librarian👻
