Happy Halloween! Also, LIVE EVENT TOMORROW
Utah Locals, come see me and Hannah Hillam chat about comics and her new book, CAT PEOPLE, at the King's English! Tomorrow night!
Hello, my friends! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
October has come and gone in a whirlwind. I always try my best to clear my schedule so that this month doesn’t feel too rushed, but somehow I still manage to be on my feet for most of it, running from thing to thing with nothing but a whiff of coffee and a memory of stale toast in my stomach. This year has been no different, and I’ve been delighted and exhausted for weeks. It’s been nothing but art shows, shop business, art classes, and of course, all the thousand little tasks and traditions that come with being a parent during spooky season.
All this to say, I’ve been saying no to pretty much everything for the entire month, but when my genius friend Hannah Hillam asked if I would be in conversation with her at her book event in Salt Lake tomorrow night, I was too thrilled to say no.
Hannah’s book, Cat People, made its debut earlier this month. I pre-ordered this one, I was so excited to have it in my hands. My kids stole it immediately after it arrived, and its been their nighttime reading material for weeks now. I’m calling it their emotional support book. It’s so funny and good—imminently gift-able and well worth a re-read or two once it’s in your hands. (Available here on Bookshop.com, or on Amazon here!)
Hannah has been making comics for easily a decade longer than me. Her drawing style is hilarious and concise, and she has a level of creative discipline that I could only aspire to. People have also confused our work in the past, which I consider to be the highest compliment. I’m super excited to chat with her about comics and book-making, and probably cats? I don’t know! I’m sure it’ll be good. I hope to see you there!
The event is free, but you probably want to register for tickets here, just so the King’s English can get a good headcount before the event. That said, I don’t think they’ll turn anyone away if they’re not registered, so please come even if you don’t have a ticket!
As for the rest, I hope today is a terrifically spooky one. I’m so grateful for this creepy little community of comic weirdos, especially when I’m struggling to keep my head above water. Somehow, it’s also a life-changing election year… again… so make sure you do your bit. I’ve done mine.
I love you all. Don’t forget to let the ghosts in,

Happy Halloween! I’ll try to make it to the event tomorrow night!
